Lost

these great big bones are quiet now
but they talked once
they talked and they sang
and painted
they told stories and tales
of men and women
who lived long long ago
they sang of the exploits
of great heroes and maidens
of a time long-lost
and they painted the faces
of a generation of people
who've long stopped being
these great big bones held more
than just a body on them--
they held a heritage

the dead should exist not as DNA'd persons
but as people with personality
the bones and the masks
highlight this
yet so often they are overlooked
