Strip-Mall

it's a sad, dingy strip mall
and it's closing down
after today

the red shopping cart
with the errant wheel
will remain

the holiday half-off sale
will strengthen and
never end

the greasy fingerprints
on toddler-level glass
are tattooed

the two bolted benches
covered in gum
will harden

the pristine lanscaping
over-run by weeds
now racing

the empty parking lot
marred by stripes
you painted

i painted the stripes...
not for attention for myself
but to bring color and liveliness to the strip mall
the grass will be uprooted and all will be well...
we live in a concrete jungle...hardened with lost hopes.
